Facebook public video links
Facebook copy-paste is a pile of products: Watch, Pages, Reels on facebook.com, and **fb.watch** short links. The [Facebook Video Downloader](/tools/facebook-video-downloader) accepts Facebook and fb.watch hosts. It cannot open a friends-only profile clip or a secret group, even if *you* can while logged in.
Guest test
Open the URL in a private window, signed out of Facebook. If you see a login wall, anonymous analysis will too. That is the whole troubleshooting guide for half of “Facebook downloader broken” reports.
fb.watch
Short, shareable, then a redirect to facebook.com. If the redirect asks for an account, copy a long public Page URL instead — if one exists.
Watch vs Page vs Reel
**Watch** URLs (`/watch?v=` or `/watch/`) are the catalog surface.
**`/{Page}/videos/{id}`** is the classic Page upload.
**`/reel/` on facebook.com** is Facebook Reels, not Instagram. Instagram Reels belong on the [Instagram Reels Downloader](/tools/instagram-reels-downloader).
Groups and events
Public groups still often cloak media from datacenter fetches. Private events never work here. Prefer a Page you control if you need a reliable public file.
oEmbed
Facebook’s video oEmbed for anonymous clients is thin. Empty oEmbed is normal. It is not proof the video “isn’t on Facebook.”
