Pinterest Pin URLs and video Pins
Pinterest organizes the web into **Pins**. The URL that identifies one Pin is `/pin/{id}/` on pinterest.com (or a regional host) or a **pin.it** short link from the app. The [Pinterest Video Downloader](/tools/pinterest-video-downloader) expects that, not a board URL and not a profile.
pin.it
Mobile share likes short links. They redirect to a Pin. If the board is secret, the redirect is a login wall and analysis fails.
Still vs video
The app can show a play overlay on a still, or a real video Pin. Public oEmbed is biased toward a **title + thumbnail**. Treat a JPEG result as a still. An MP4 row appears only when a public video URL exists. Do not rename JPG to MP4; see [MP3 vs MP4](/blog/mp3-vs-mp4-for-saved-online-media).
Idea Pins
Several pages, one URL. Public metadata is often a single cover. There is no honest “download all pages” without a file list from Pinterest.
After a still
[Resize](/tools/image-resizer), [crop](/tools/image-cropper), [compress](/tools/image-compressor). That is the same pipeline as any other web JPEG.
Rights
Pins are frequently other people’s photos. Public on Pinterest is not a stock license.
