TikTok video URLs and public pages

TikTok’s share sheet does not always copy the pretty `@handle/video/id` URL. Android often copies **vm.tiktok.com**. iOS often copies **vt.tiktok.com**. Both should redirect to the canonical video. If the redirect hits a login interstitial, a downloader that is not your phone will fail even though the app still plays the clip.

The [TikTok Video Downloader](/tools/tiktok-video-downloader) accepts those hosts. The [TikTok MP4 Downloader](/tools/tiktok-mp4-downloader) uses the same URLs with an MP4-first list.

Canonical form

The number is the video id. Handles can change. Photo-mode posts may share similar paths but publish stills, not MP4.

Short links

They exist because the long URL is ugly in SMS. They are not a second TikTok. If a short link is expired or geo-blocked, copy the long URL from a browser that can open the video as a guest.

oEmbed

TikTok still publishes oEmbed for many public videos: title, author, thumbnail. That thumbnail is a real public image when the CDN allows it. It is not automatically an MP4. See [MP3 vs MP4](/blog/mp3-vs-mp4-for-saved-online-media).

Private, friends, deleted

Friends-only and private accounts are out of scope. Deleted ids fail. Region-locked videos may play on a phone SIM and fail from a worker IP.

Vertical siblings

[YouTube Shorts](/tools/youtube-shorts-downloader) and [Instagram Reels](/tools/instagram-reels-downloader) are different hosts and different URL rules. Do not paste them into the TikTok form.

FAQ

Is vt.tiktok.com iOS-only?

It is common on iOS share sheets. The worker cares about the host, not the phone.

Why no watermark-free MP4?

We do not run a watermark remover. Creator tools exist for *your* account.
