Instagram Reels Downloader

A Reel is a **vertical, Reels-tab clip** with its own URL grammar. The app copies `instagram.com/reel/{shortcode}/` (sometimes `/reels/`). A grid video you opened from a profile can still be `/p/`. What is an Instagram Reels downloader?

An Instagram Reels downloader is a tool that takes a **public Reel URL**, requests public metadata for that shortcode, and lists files that a logged-out fetch can retrieve. It is not Meta’s official “save” button (which keeps the Reel inside Instagram). It is not a watermark stripper. It is not a bulk profile scraper.

How Reel URLs differ from posts

**Shortcode.** Both `/p/` and `/reel/` use a shortcode, but they are not interchangeable in Instagram’s UI. Opening a Reel in the Reels viewer copies `/reel/`. Opening the same upload from a tagged **feed post** (if Instagram created one) may copy `/p/`.

**Audio pages.** Links that point at an audio hub (`/reels/audio/`) are not a single clip. This tool wants one Reel.

**Share stickers and “add to story.”** Those flows may copy a wrapper URL. If analysis fails, open the Reel fully and copy again.

**instagram.com/reels/** with no shortcode is the explore surface, not a file.

Mobile workflow

Open the Reel in the Instagram app. Tap the three dots or share → Copy link. Confirm `reel` is in the path. Paste into this downloader (Safari and Chrome both work). Analyze. Download only listed public files.

If Instagram shows “This account is private,” stop. The worker is not a follower.

What files appear

When Instagram still publishes oEmbed or Open Graph for anonymous clients, you may get a **preview image**. A raw MP4 is listed only when a public video URL is present on an allowed host. Many Reels will analyze as “page found, no public video file.” That is Instagram’s current public surface, not a hidden quality dropdown we forgot to draw.

A Remix Reel is still one shortcode — the one you copied. We do not crawl the original for you. Dual-clip collabs are one post as far as the URL is concerned. If the public preview is a combined frame, that is what Instagram published.

Processing
